If any of you have had the pleasure of meeting my mom aka the Kathy Billings, you know that she is the kindest person you know. She makes everyone feel at home when they meet her. She’s very funny and her comments on things can sometimes make me laugh. She has been my biggest supporter for my entire life. She’s there right when I get home to here everything that happened that day and there when I need someone to cry to. I thought it would be fun to share with you her thoughts about my adoption, so I did an interview type thing with her…
Was it hard to love me since I technically wasn’t yours at first?
⁃ “No, it was absolute instant love.”
Was there any time in my life that made it difficult to think about my adoption?
⁃ “Mother’s day was difficult because it was weird thinking about somebody out there that I was sharing this day with.”
What was your first thoughts when you saw me?
⁃ “It was very overwhelming. It was crazy to have some stranger put a baby in my arms and say ‘Hey this is yours now.’ But it was so exciting at the same time.”
Advice for future/current adoptive parents?
⁃ Embrace who your child is and embrace their story. Learn about how adoptees feel because I didn’t think about it because she was adopted at birth.
I love my mom to death. Her opinion means absolutely everything to me. I love to hear her thoughts about my adoption. So, mom, thank you for being the best mom. Thank you for raising me to be who I am today. Thank you for making me proud to be your daughter ever single day. I love you more than you could ever imagine.
